Public Holidays

The Government announces a new public holiday, often at short notice. What do employers do? Are employers obliged to honour this additional day?

The short answer is that as long as an employer has provided at least 13 days’ holiday, which includes 1 May (Labour Day), there is no requirement to honour additional days. The standard practice is to allow 15 or 16 days.
